Working in the fashion industry, I forget that most people and consumers who actually purchase fashion designs don't know the difference between a clutch and a wallet or even a hobo and cross body. To make matters more interesting, it's not just men who have these handbag questions, but women have these confusions as well! Although all of this fashion-oriented information just comes as second nature to me, maybe we need to have a fashion intervention and information convention for all of our bagistas.There are many different shapes, sizes, embellishments, details, hardware uses, closures and materials that handbags can come in, but I will just provide a quick overview of the fabulously popular handbag designs and structures that come high in demand these days. Consider this your Handbago 101.Satchel:This shape is classic in structure and always a favorite in chic and luxurious designs. These bags have two handles with a shorter handle drop length and are carried over the forearm. Perfect for any season out of the year, the satchel is versatile and can be dressed up or dressed down.The most popular satchel design is Louis Vuitton's Speedy Satchel. This is a casual design with its slouchy and comfortable elements.A great shopper bag that has been seen around Los Angeles is the Jimmy Choo Tatum Snakeskin Shopper. With its beautiful snakeskin, funky frill and edgy chain detailing in the straps, this Jimmy Choo design is a favorite and can literally fit everything you own and the kitchen sink.Cross Body:The cross body is a bag design with one long strap that can literally fit across your body and hit just below your hip. The actual part of this bag that carries content can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but the length of the strap and way it is worn across the body defines the cross body bag.A great cross body bag that is a big hit here at Handbago is the Rebecca Minkoff 3 Zip Clutch. Although the name of this bag contains the term clutch, it is considered a cross body when the strap is in use. More chains, zipper, frill and tassels make this bag stand out by itself.Clutch:The clutch is a strapless and handle-less handbag. With its oversized tassel, this wristlet is embellished just perfectly for casual or evening wear. Simply toss in the much needed essentials as lip gloss, money, phone, cards, slip onto the wrist and call it a day and night.Wallet:The wallet is small and designed to hold money and cards in an organized fashion. This piece is informal and can simply be tossed in a bag, rather than be used as a handheld bag or clutch itself. Wallets are used by both men and women and come in a variety of all shapes and styles.Be & D's Garbo Studd Wallet is a great find with it's studded embellishment and optional wrist strap that allows the wallet to opt as a wristlet. Not only is it functional as a wallet, but also looks brilliant when in use outside of your handbag.Backpack:The backpack is a bag that generally has two straps that are worn over the shoulders. This handsfree bag is convenient and functional when carrying goods. Perfect for day use and casual outings, the backpack is not just for school kids anymore. They come is a variety of materials and styles.A favorite backpack-themed bag at Handbago is the Harness by Collina Strada.
