Tell us about what made you decide to build your own handbag business.I have always loved handbags! I use to work in a Beauty Salon and handbag vendor would come in to display and sell their wonderful wears. It was so hard to resist buying them since I hardly ever got a chance to shop during normal business hours (my chair was always busy); When I decided to change careers, my new husband stated loudly and clearly,"I am not supporting your handbag habit!" Shocked at this I thought long and hard as to how I was going to meet my need for fashionable bags... then it struck me... I could make my own bag but one that reflected more of me and less of the mainstream.When and how did Marion Renee come to be?Well in the beginning, I started to just make greeting cards, which sold pretty well then I wanted to transfer that look unto a purse but I really didn't know what I was doing. The cards had feathers and glitter with little rhinestones and putting glitter and feathers on a bag proved to be horrible.. glitter and feather were everywhere and the more you used the bag the more the art would be lost. I had to find another way. I discovered paint then I discovered denim then I knew I had something.What inspires your work?Colors of the day inspire me, beautiful faces inspire me and bold strokes on canvas' inspire me. Sometimes I look at the sunset and try to capture a color of it in paint or maybe see a street with a great point of view or I watch a movie that shows some gorgeous landscaping shots and it just makes me want to paint. I try not to limit myself in this type of work because it is many way I got into it... for the freedom of it. I have a fabulous opportunity to live out my dream and I don't want to muck it up with boundaries.What sets you apart from other handbag designers?I really try to make bags that would match any woman's wardrobe but not be just an accessory but a key part of her look. I want my artful bags to be view as essentials rather then accessories, meaning that they be more of a finishing touch to an ensemble rather then an added piece.Your bags are definitely wearable art. How long does it take you to create a handbag?Well depending on the conditions of the day, I can have one completed in one day or it may take up to 3 days. Humidity on the west coast is not normally a problem but when it does arise, paints take longer to dry which slows production... I like to paint in parts and sew later... painting is my favorite part of the process then the finish product.Is there anything else about yourself or Marion Renee that you would like our readers to know?I have been in this business for approx 8 years but have been loving the handbag since I was a little girl. I enjoy what I do and try to convey that in every bag that I produce. All of my work is one of a kind and designed and made by me.
