Stuhrling Original timepieces are attractively priced mechanical self-winding watches worn by discerning style-conscious men and women. The company traces its roots back to late 19th century Switzerland, and to master watchmaker Max Stuhrling, the protege of Louis Audemars (of Audemars Piguet). Stuhrling, despite his immense talents, was a man who eschewed luxury, and despite making wristwatches that cost several times the average man/'s salary, he endeavored to manufacture mechanical watches that would be affordable to most. By the mid twentieth century, the Stuhrling family had become engaged in other interests, but they never lost their forefather/'s love and respect for watchmaking. The 1990/'s surge in mechanical watchmaking popularity, led Max Stuhrling IV (great grandson of the founder), to re-establish the legacy of watchmaking excellence.

AdditionalInfo: The Saturnalia is the Roman feast commemorating the temple of Saturn and was originally celebrated for only a day, but it became so popular that soon it lasted a week. Marked by tomfoolery and reversal of social roles, it was a time to eat, drink, and be merry. Sthrling Original honors the famed Roman festival adding to one of its most popular series in their entire Gallery of Timepieces, the Labyrinthian Series, the new Saturnalia! Like all the models in the Labyrinthian Series, the Saturnalia is distinguished by its intricate double milled bezel. And talk about impressions, this new edition of its forbearer, the Saturn, is nearly five millimeters larger in diameter in its whopping 44.9 millimeter wide case. While the Saturnalia is certainly a stunning timepiece to look at, the technical achievement is quite notable in its own right. The Sthrling caliber ST-92504, 33-jewel mechanical self-winding movement features retrograde day and date complications while boasting a faux-tourbillon open-heart at the six oclock position. The opening in the dial reveals a clear view of the balance wheel beating rigorously at 21,600 vibrations per hour while just beneath a rotating propeller-style flywheel synchronized to the seconds complication provides one complete revolution every minute! This spectacular combination creates the illusion of the most sought after complication in all of watch-making, a tourbillon. And to put a bow and ribbon on this exquisite package is an extraordinary bow-tie bridge held securely with blued steel micro-screws.The exquisite open-heart in concert with the refined double milled bezel makes the Saturnalia as dressy and formal of a timepiece as any in the Sthrling Original collection, however the beauty of this piece does not stop there. Protected by the large Krysterna crystal, the split-level hydraulically pressed dial is a classic example of Sthrling Original dial-work. With de-bossed rays emanating from the open-heart in the main dial and raised arcs for the day and date indications, the fan-like design for the day-of-the-week sub-dial at the two oclock position features a Jonequille tented effect. The overall look is complemented perfectly with skeletonized Dauphine-style minute and hour hands, a razor thin sweep second hand, and nicely appointed micro Alpha-style hands for the day and date. The individually applied Arabic numerals for the hour markers provide yet another layer of depth and allure! The controls for the Saturnalia are integrated seamlessly to the design as well. The onion style crown flanked by box-like guard rails is an ideal companion to the masterpiece case and the recessed pushers for the day and date are positioned brilliantly at the four and eight oclock positions. On the reverse side, the Saturnalias screwed-in exhibition case-back with its Krysterna crystal reveals a watch-making feast of details: Perlage treatment on the pillar plates; blued steel micro-screws; Damier finished rotor. Water-resistance to fifty meters, the Saturnalia is mounted on a 24-millimeter wide alligator embossed genuine French leather strap appointed with a push-button dual deployant clasp.
