Mulberry for Target | Another Designer Sells Out (Sep 18, 2011)
"Really? Not another!" "Glad I didn't I spend that $2000". "Sell Out". All these were thoughts that blew through my mind while recently thumbing through my stack of just-mailed fashion mags I subscribe to for handbag related research (perks of the job, I suppose). What brought these thoughts to mind, you ask? Simple. Another Target Ad. This time, the red bulls eye was boasting a new collaboration with the luxury handbag line, Mulberry and their designer, Emma Hill. Don't get me wrong, I love Mulberry bags and I adore Ms. Hill, but are you kidding me? Honestly, as someone who works directly with hundreds of talented designers , some starving and some not, who all work at least a 100 hour work weeks, pouring their blood, sweat and tears into creations that transport your most prized possessions in the form of the "bag", I feel I have an obligation to out speak for them. It's true, I'll admit it, I believe in capitalism, the American Dream which allows us the freedom to work hard and become rich, but politics and loads of money aside, I am starting to believe that fashion houses are taking advantage of this brand name prostitution ring Target continues to head up. Are we so desperate for a brand name that instant gratification has taken over? has China officially won? Issac Mizrahi was one thing, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and now Mulberry? Seems as if they are all deciding to throw in the towel to produce cheap bags that emulate their original designs. The truth is, is that we all loose when high end brands decide to go the Target route and the customers that spent a whopping $2000 for their brand name bag, now de-valued, get to sit back and see cheap semi-immitations of their bags running around all over town. The big picture? The designers that feel the need to make a few more bucks by selling to Target are actually competing with those illegal street vendors they all complain about. With all that money Target is raking in, can't they hire a design team of their own?As a frugalista, don't cheapen your look by carrying a less expensive rendition of the bag you really want to buy and can't afford. Save your pennies to invest in that gorgeous designer bag you've been lusting after or be satisfied to wear a basic no-name (nothing wrong with this!) to avoid looking like you just can't afford the real thing. Just sayin....Photo courtesy of Target.com...thanks guys

But there is still plenty to enjoy (Jan 01, 1970)
The shop was not completely open there is clearly a swankier addition in the works. But there is still plenty to enjoy. The main draw are the Armani jeans, from GBP 36 a pair. Also good value are the Emporio Armani angora jumpers from GBP 32 and linen women's for GBP 390 or elegant men's for GBP 360.
