Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets will bring back a familiar face in Jason Isringhausen, as part of a number of moves to shore up a depleted pitching staff in the wake of Sunday's 11-inning loss to Washington. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team needed some help in the bullpen following Sunday's contest. Blaine Boyer, who took the loss in the 7-3 setback, has been designated for assignment. Boyer gave up four runs in two innings of work on Sunday, allowing an RBI single to Ivan Rodriguez before serving up a three-run homer to Laynce Nix in Washington's four-run 11th inning. Isringhausen was a Mets draft pick in 1991 and was part of the club's Generation K of the mid-90s that also featured young pitchers Bill Pulsipher and Paul Wilson. Isringhausen started 47 games between 1995-97 for New York, including a terrific 9-2 rookie campaign in '95. After arm problems derailed his starting career, Isringhausen flourished as a closer with Oakland and St. Louis from 2000-08. He last pitched in the majors for Tampa Bay in 2009 and entered Mets camp this spring on a minor league contract, then remained in Florida at the start of the season. The 38-year-old right-hander has a career record of 45-50 with 293 saves and a 3.60 earned run average. In addition to Isringhausen, the Mets will also add right-hander Ryota Igarashi. He appeared in 34 games for New York last season and started the 2011 campaign at Triple-A Buffalo. The Mets have also optioned outfielder Lucas Duda to Buffalo. He had appeared in eight games this season and was just 2-for-17 with an RBI.
