During my studies at the Miami International University of Art and Design I developed a passion for handbags and knew right away that after graduation I wanted to start a Handbag line. I traveled to Italy to do some sourcing of materials and vendors. And a few months later the Signature collection of 2009 was born. What are the primary influences behind your 2009 Signature Collection?We get influences and inspiration from everything that surrounds us an arquitectural design, a flower, a fruit everything around us is a source of inspiration. Miami is a very colorful city, everywhere we go we’re surrounded by color. And you can see those bright colors in every LaLucca bag 2009 signature collection.I love your LaLucca Art Bags Collection. Tell us how you came to work with artist Aleksandar Kirilov, and how the idea to market "wearable art" came about.Many designers are using art prints on their designs, but we wanted to make something different. Art shouldn’t be mass produce so we decided to offer our clients a line of hand painted handbags with one of kind designs. I’ve always admired Aleksandar’s art, is very colorful with an attention to details. Each piece created by Aleksandar is unique. He paints directly on the cut handbag pattern making sure the art complement its overall shape and style. Each bag is signed by the artist and given a name and number.Who is your fashion/style icon? Aside from your own handbags, whose bags do you wear?I really don’t have a favorite, many designers have breathtaking designs. I used to wear many designer handbags but lately I’ve been only wearing my own. I cant live without our Bea tote. It’s big enough so I can carry anything I would need during the day and if I’m out with my dog she can ride in it, too.What advice would you give to an aspiring handbag designer looking to break into the business?To and aspiring handbag designer I would say beginnings are difficult but you need to stay focus and follow your dream. You’ll have ups and downs, some people may not like your design but someone else will because we’re all different and like different things, don’t let anything get you down and keep you from following your dream.Is there anything else about yourself or LaLucca that you want our bagistas to know?We have new styles for the LaLucca artbags coming soon.
