KNBC - Susan Handley is a mom on a mission. Nearly a decade ago, she was a struggling single parent who had just quit her job and was looking for a way to support her young son. She decided to pursue a passion she's had since childhood. "I have been designing bags since I was a little girl out of my mom's closet," Handley said. Handley created Beijo Bags, a direct sales handbag company that she started from the trunk of her car. In just nine short years, it has become a multi-million-dollar company housed in a 28,000-square-foot warehouse in Santa Clarita, California. Handley said independent consultants who run handbag parties are the backbone of the company's success. "When we go to a party, we put the bags out for the ladies and there is an amazing response with the bags," said Beth Spooner, a regional fashion director for Beijo. The company now has more than 2,000 consultants and is growing. Handley's mission is to help others find financial freedom. "We have spent the last nine years providing an opportunity for women to be entrepreneurs and work for themselves and still balance their lives," Handley said.
