The hotel's location afforded us a view of the historic waterfront area and the bay beyond (Jan 01, 1970)
Back at the Portola Hotel and Spa we settled in for some relaxation. The hotel's location afforded us a view of the historic waterfront area and the bay beyond. Our room with one king bed was upscale with a amenities such as a large-screen LCD television, a desk and work area and a couple of wicker chairs for reading or conversation. The hotel is 379 rooms so it's a big-hotel experience with a massive, impeccably landscaped courtyard/lobby area as well as shops and restaurants on the premises. The restaurants include Jack's, specializing in California cuisine, and Peter B's, a fun microbrewery with 15 HDTV's for sports viewing.

Handbag Trends From Argentina (Sep 18, 2011)
Recently, we decided to spend part of our holidays in South America and I was immediately overwhelmed with giddiness of first, hot summer weather (I can't get enough of summer) and second, all that affordable leather! Besides spending time with the family, I couldn't wait to get to the nearest mall in Buenos Aires. Argentina is about the only country that you can get genuine and excellent quality leather goods at cheap prices. Thus, handbag shopping!Despite my climate induced cold, I ventured out with my sniffles to Dot Buenos Aireswhere I entered Prune, an upscale handbag chain in Argentina. There I was, in a candy land of handbags, piling on handbag after handbag. Now keep in mind, that summer is in full swing in Argentina so I was ecstatic to see their 2011 Spring/Summer collection. I have to say, I noticed lots of neutrals and grays.I snagged a few neutrals in various shapes, two calf skin hobos that I fell in love with, and a black faux leather satchel with gunmetal pyramid stud detailing. In addition to their handbag collection, Prune also displayed leather belts with metal detailing, shoes (you would die for their resort sandal collection!!), boots and even calfskin wallets. Calf-Skin Leather Hobo with Fringe detail Synthetic Satchel $60 USDMy favorite of all the bags was my little piece of heaven, the snake-embossed calfskin hobo with a fringe. I absolutely love this bag! For being 100% calfskin leather, the total damage came in just under $150 USD. All in all, my trip to Buenos Aires was a fabulous getaway from the winter cold and a very successful shopping trip for what I love best, handbags. I hope you enjoy my little treasures from my travels abroad. Ciao!Jess

How Balenciaga Became Big Under Nicolas Ghesquiere (Sep 18, 2011)
On Cristobal Balenciaga, Givenchy has said, Balenciaga not only created a style, but a technique as well. He was the architect of haute couture. Cristobal Balenciaga, man behind the legendary Balenciaga brand - a remarkable twentieth century designer label, died in 1972 to left his dream to slowly lose out its significance in the twenty-first century. But how the label re-emerged as a brand to reckon with is all about Nicolas Ghesquiere, the creative head of Balenciaga since 1997. Ghesquire, who took the fashion scenario with surprise, revamped the modern day fashion. If the silhouettes that accentuate a woman's body were de-shaped by Cristobal Balenciaga, who has in his credit the sack, the baby doll, the balloon skirt, the bracelet sleeve, Nicolas Ghesquire taking a cue from the Balenciaga's rich heritage introduced futuristic designs. A sack dress is embellished with piece of shantung and plastic. Ghesquire brought skinny pants, motorcycle jackets sharply tailored dresses in techno materials like embroidered latex or patent leather, gold metal "robot" leggings. Ghesquire through Balenciaga started a revolution of sorts with the dramatic shoulders on the dresses, be it voluminous, puffed, rounded or a batwing. He was born in Lille , France , to a Belgian father who was a swimming coach. Always interested in fashion designing he followed his heart and soon an internship at Agns B. followed, and later he was roped in as an assistant designer at Jean Paul Gaultier. Then, an opening on Balenciaga's design team made him to shift to the brand which was founded in 1918. Two years later, Ghesquire was promoted to be the creative director. In 2001, he was honored with the CFDA's International Award. In January 2008, he was made a Chevalier of Arts and Letters, the highest arts accolade one can receive from the French government. In 2006, The New York Times considering his fashion achievements called him the most important designer of his generation. Under his guidance, Balenciaga explored the menswear section and is a huge hit among the celebrities because of its edgy accessories, particularly handbags and colourful shoes. Fashion critics didn't took much time to shower their praises for the brand's new Autumn/Hiver 2010/2011 collection. About the Author:
