Excerpt: 'The Shopping Bags' by Anna Wallner and Kristina Matisic (Oct 10, 2011)
"Viewers have been telling us for some time that they want to take us with them when they shop," Wallner says. "Now they'll have the next best thing." "The Shopping Bags: Tips, Tricks and Inside Information to Make You a Savvy Shopper" is an A-to-Z guide to cosmetics, electronics, fashion and food. It includes the top 10 things you should know about a product before you buy, plus celebrity tips from such experts as Martha Stewart, Diane von Furstenberg and Randy Bachman."The Shopping Bags" is also a cautionary handbook that helps prevent injury to the pocketbook and buyer's remorse. It contains insider tips on such products as nail polish (expensive brands chip just as fast as the cheaper ones, but the colors are often nicer), razor blades (don't pay more for the ones with moisture strips, shaving cream works just as well) and running shoes (never shop online, you always should try them on before you buy). You can read an excerpt from the book below.Dressed to the NinesFashion and Accessories It's a good time to be a clotheshorse. The market is saturated, making it easier than ever to find stylish clothes and designer knockoffs. To keep your closet au courant and your wallet intact, heed this advice and remember: At some time or another, just about everything goes on sale.Avoid paying retail. This is especially true if you shop at chain stores like Banana Republic or department stores like Nordstrom, where eventually most merchandise goes on sale. Believe us, we've tested this theory! At the start of every season, we hit all the chain stores and make a list or take digital pictures of items we want, and then we track them. Whether you can wait for the sale price or if they'll still have your size in stock are the main considerations for paying full price or waiting it out. But don't forget to try Commandment #1: Negotiate!Hit the discount stores. You can shop at places like Wal-Mart and still be stylish. Blend discount items with other designer pieces (like a bargain camisole with your favorite designer suit). Discount and off-price stores mark down designer clothing by about 30 percent to start with and go on from there. The best merchandise moves quickly though -- these places are a hub for smart shoppers, so you'll definitely want to find out when new shipments arrive. Befriend the salesclerks!Get on the sample sale circuit. Sample sales are a great way to get designer items for less. (These are garments and accessories that have been used to showcase a designer's new line.) Local retailers and designers offer low, low prices on a selection of sample sizes -- which tend to be on the small side. To get onto the sample sale circuit, inquire with any independently owned clothing store or a local designer. Once you get on one list, you'll find you quickly get invited to lots of private sales. Much like designer warehouses, the best buys at these events get snapped up very quickly. Arrive promptly on the first day, but not too early; most sample sellers have a strict "no early birds" policy.Find out whether your favorite stores offer sale adjustments. That means if you pay full price for something that goes on sale a week later, you get a refund or credit for the discounted amount.1|

But it's even better for Rome: you can relax and simply enjoy strolling through the city and popping into the shops you meet on the way (Jan 01, 1970)
The Italian shopping capital is without a doubt Milan. But it's even better for Rome: you can relax and simply enjoy strolling through the city and popping into the shops you meet on the way. The set of signboards is the same in all the trade streets: one will certainly find bags Furla, lacy dresses Expensive!, Benetton and Sisley. Among the inexpensive brands one can distinguish Blu Sand (very cheap and rather nice things of an unpredictable quality), Habana (T-shirts up to 15 EUR), Le Group (pretty dresses, trousers and coats), Etam (mainly cotton things plus flax and cute pyjamas), List (this one is more expensive but the items fit ideally). Sistina, Gregoriana, Frattina and Borgognona streets host the most luxurious boutiques, such as Armani, Gianfranco Ferre, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentine, Rocco Barocco, Trussardi and other.

The whole experience was naturally inspirational, and encouraging in so much as his favourite phrase inspiration can come from anywhere had been incorporated in my own collective of philosophical rimes for many years (Jan 01, 1970)
I was privileged enough to recently attend a brief introduction to Paul Smiths forthcoming attractions hosted by one of his Australian representatives. The whole experience was naturally inspirational, and encouraging in so much as his favourite phrase inspiration can come from anywhere had been incorporated in my own collective of philosophical rimes for many years. This was gratifying for me and I felt immediately in tune with his design ideals. Listening to the talk was easy because I understood fashion as a culmination of past, present and future.

Im probably there nursing some kind of romantic tragedy, and what says that better than sipping my pia colada with Love Kills Slowly emblazoned over my heart?Plus, if you think about it, I should really have one sexy little dress, in case a hot fisherma (Jan 01, 1970)
And actually, you know what would be really cute over that bikini when it gets chilly at night? One of those Ed Hardy apparel hoodies. Im probably there nursing some kind of romantic tragedy, and what says that better than sipping my pia colada with Love Kills Slowly emblazoned over my heart?Plus, if you think about it, I should really have one sexy little dress, in case a hot fisherman comes sailing through and wants to go dancing. And in that case, strappy sandals. And isnt this dancing scenario all the prettier if there are some fabulous gold earrings glinting in the moonlight?Okay, so obviously the life Im fantasizing about is not entirely free of designer fashion accessories. Wheres the fun in that? But if Im not going to put a down payment on that beach hut in the next month or so, there are still ways to simplify:1. A bag for Goodwill or Dress For Success clears some space in your closet and lets someone in need enjoy your gently worn clothes or designer shoes for women. 2.

Treasuring Our Elders' Wisdom Hermes (Sep 18, 2011)
Every brand has its own history. The history is the condensed good sense of previous generation. Herms is named after the last name. Through the efforts of several generations of hard work Hermes to begin as a harness shop and eventually become an international company. Wisdom can not be underestimated. Can you remember all the family history and traditions that were passed along? Family history is something most people take for granted. Who keeps up with your history? Most family history is verbal. It's handed down from generation to generation. Most families expect the next generation to do better. This expectation can scare us because we don't want to be responsible for any setbacks. Passing the family's collective experience to the next generation is a necessary part of building strong leadership within families. Our parents are always teaching us whether we realize it or not. They teach both in words and by example. You can learn many things from that. Hermes must teach his later generation likes this. How ca families preserve this rich knowledge base? Who is going to remind us of the old ways? Read the newspaper and you'll find youth on the rampage. Many want to point fingers at media, society, movies, and ill-equipped parents. Society needs to find answers to help this young generation. Let's use one of our greatest treasures, our seniors. As we enter this new millennium, we cannot afford to reject the wisdom from past generations. Then what should we do? We can ask senior citizens to mentor young people with their expertise, and encourage seniors to write their stories and experience for the next generation. Furthermore, we can visit nursing homes and discover all the wisdom there.Knowledge is wasted if it isn't used correctly. Why make the same mistakes, over and over? Take heed from the wisdom that'll all around you. Build on the previous generations by avoiding the same traps. We must preserve our heritage and legacy. It is a responsibility we must all bear. This is not only suit the later generation of the big family, like Hermes. It is also suiting everyone. If you don't preserve this rich history, don't expect anyone else to care about your own generation. Give future generations that corporate knowledge that exists now. Start today.
